Recently Engaged???

Did you and your love get engaged over the festive period?? I mean it is a magical time of the year and perfect for such an occasion. I know thats what my fiancé thought when he proposed on Christmas Day 2020 in the midst of an epidemic (which is crazy to think was over 5 years ago); and it was perfect. No cliches or anyone around just me and him and our cats.

So what now??? What do you do now, where do you begin? Let me help you out with some points to help you get started….

STEP 1: LIVE IN THE MOMENT

Just go and enjoy that ‘just engaged’ bubble. Celebrate with a drink of your choice and just soak it all in. You are now ‘fiancé's’

STEP 2: CAPTURE IT

If you wish to and of course if the budget allows (I mean you spent a pretty penny not that shiny new ring after all) get that photographer you love and first of capture the moment itself but also all the moments following. If not a good ol’ trusty phone will do the trick. Get those selfies and videos of yourselves, trust me you will love looking back at them in the future.

STEP 3: ANNOUNCE IT

Let everyone you wish know, give them a call, get them on FaceTime, post online, however you wish to tell people go for it. Enjoy the well wishes and love that your family and friends will show you. To some it might have come as a surprise to others it might be a case of ‘about time’. (which was certainly the case for my fiancé who took a lovely 10 years to finally ask me)

STEP 4: THINK ABOUT THAT DATE

The date will affect a lot of things, of course availability for venues and suppliers. Other things to considering is public holidays, time of the year. I mean you can never guarantee the weather but if your thinking of a date in December its pretty safe to say its not exactly going to be hot and the light is going to be a lot shorter than day in the peak of summer.

STEP 5: PRIORITISE WHAT MATTERS

List those non-negotiables, make sure you are both on the same wavelength as to what is important to both of you and what is an absolute MUST for your special day. For me of course we had to have a photographer/videographer for our day that was a MUST and Im so grateful we did. Other people might not find that as important. But thats why you need to sit down and discuss it with each other.

STEP 6: VIEW AND GET THAT VENUE BOOKED

The very first thing you have to book is the venue, I mean without a place to tie the knot it’s pretty hard to book other suppliers and gather people to celebrate the day with you. Once you’ve booked a venue you of course then you have a date.

STEP 7: BOOK THAT PHOTOGRAPHER

It’s never too early to secure that photographer you just love. We can get booked up as far 2-3 years in advance. Don’t regret missing out on the photos you've dreamt of.

STEP 8: BOOK THOSE OTHER VENDORS

Decide what’s important to you and secure those perfect vendors for your special day. Whether that’s florals, catering, music, entertainment or hair and makeup.

STEP 9: ENJOY THE PROCESS

Remember to enjoy yourself, celebrate the small moments and just enjoy the planning and the lead up to your special day.
