Confetti Talk

Everyone loves a confetti shot, but choosing the right one is important to grab that extra special photo.

But there’s a few things to bear in mind when choosing your confetti for your special day.

1. Ensure you have permission

Make sure to check with your venue what their policy is for confetti. Some don’t allow confetti full stop, others might request only fresh flower petals are allowed, or biodegradable petals and then some might allow any and all types of confetti.

2. Choosing the right confetti

There are so many options out there to choose from.

  • Dried flower petals — romantic, organic movement, excellent in natural light.

  • Biodegradable paper confetti — gives the classic “explosion” effect and shows up clearly in photos.

  • Lavender or herbs — soft texture and lovely atmosphere, especially for countryside weddings.

  • Large tissue circles — dramatic in photos because they float slowly.

  • White or pastel petals — timeless and elegant.

  • Mixed colours — energetic and celebratory, especially for modern weddings.

3. Match confetti to your photography style

Editorial / luxury style

Use:

  • ivory petals

  • muted blush tones

  • oversized tissue confetti

  • all-white palettes

This keeps images clean and timeless.

Documentary / energetic style

Use:

  • colourful biodegradable paper

  • mixed petal blends

  • larger handfuls

  • multiple textures

This creates movement and emotion.

Rustic / garden weddings

Use:

  • dried petals

  • lavender

  • wildflower mixes

These suit outdoor light beautifully

4. Size matters more than people think

  • Bigger pieces = easier to see

  • Small confetti disappears in wide shots.

5. Quantity: most weddings underbuy

The biggest mistake is not having enough.

A useful guideline:

  • one generous handful per guest

  • or individual cones/bags filled properly

Sparse confetti looks weak in photos.

7. Bubbles are a fun alternative to traditional confetti — playful, romantic, and amazing in sunlight

7. And most importantly — have fun with it. It’s your wedding day, not a photoshoot with a wedding attached. The best confetti images happen when couples are genuinely laughing, celebrating, and enjoying the moment rather than worrying about getting the “perfect” shot.
